                                  Eating in Bangkok

                                  Cooking in Bangkok
Thais in general are slim (though currently the youths are catching up to their huskier Western counterparts). But do not let their slender appearances fool you. They are voracious eaters who often snack between meals. They are also picky diners and dedicated solely to eateries worthy of their hard earned Baht. In turn restaurant owners and cooks have to keep up a good track record just to keep their hard won customer base. And that's good news for anyone visiting Bangkok where you can really have a culinary adventure of a lifetime at the fraction of the price you would normally pay at your local Thai restaurant.

Today though there is a trend towards Thais eating out in Western style fast food burger and pizza chains. And we all know their names. Those types of restaurants are fine for locals. They are also fine for travelers exploring Bangkok with young finicky children who rather eat the familiar fare.

But if you are a healthy adult there is no reason why you should not be sampling all the delicious varieties of food and drink Bangkok has to offer.

Want to try authentic Thai food but are concerned about cleanliness? Then make your way to any of the food courts in Bangkok's central malls. And if you are the adventurous sort and don't mind the ambiance of a sidewalk restaurant then grab a plastic chair and dine like a local. I'll guarantee the food will be better than the Thai joints in your home country.

Travel Tips for Eating in Bangkok

If you ever had the pleasure of traveling with friends and family you will inevitably come to a point where everyone cannot decide what to eat because everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

One suggestion is to head to Siam Paragon and make your way to the basement level where there is section filled with restaurants serving Mexican, American, Italian and of course Asian foods. Once everyone has purchased their meals they can gather at the food court tables and enjoy their newly acquired good eats.

                                  Tips for Eating with Children

Kids are certainly finicky eaters and of course parents don't want the frustration of having to coax their kids into trying Pad Thai. And no parent wants to mistakenly give their child a plate of anything with over the top spicy chili.

What you can do is head over to any of the city's nearest massive supermarkets such as Tops Supermarket, Big C or Tesco.
These mega stores are filled with a wide variety of Western and European groceries that foreigners will be familiar with. Peanut butter, jams, crackers, sweet cereal, ham and cheese, you name it they will probably have it.

And if you must - there are many McDonald's, Burger Kings and Kentucky Fried Chicken chains very easily found all over.

Tips for Dealing with Spicy Food

Thai chili can be exceptionally spicy for the Western palate. So if your plate of Pad Kra Pow is too spicy and you feel like a volcano is about to erupt from your mouth then get something sweet like candy or even better drink milk. Both are easily found in 7 Eleven grocery stores that are seemingly on every street corner in Bangkok.
