                                  Sightseeing in Bangkok

Whether you are visiting Bangkok for a few days or just a few weeks, there are many places to explore to your hearts content. And even though Bangkok is most notoriously well known for its seedy red light districts it is rapidly becoming a family friendly city and is quite safe for all ages.

With the the city's cheap and efficient transportation systems such as the Bangkok BTS Sky Trains and express river boats - getting around Bangkok is not hard especially if you are concerned about the language barrier. Though signs and addresses in Bangkok can be confusing, most of the street signs near popular tourist attractions are in English. You will often find helpful signs with arrows, a description and how many meters away.

Bangkok is not a big city. Though it is made up of 50 districts. Don't worry it is not necessary to visit all 50 districts to get the most out of your holiday experience in Bangkok.

There are only 10 distinct areas with real interest for tourists and all of them conveniently make up central Bangkok.

Siam, Pratunam, Sukhumvit and Silom are considered the modern commercial shopping districts filled with both affordable budget and luxury hotels. A bit pricier for food and hotels though but much more tourist friendly. The BTS Sky Trains run though all of these district making it and ideal place to find a hotel.

The older and historical sections of Bangkok are found in Yaowarat, Rattanakosin and Dusit. These areas have points of interest such as Khao San Road, Bangkok Zoo, Chinatown, museums and the Grand Palace. This part of central Bangkok can be easily visited by using the River Express Ferry Boats that run up and down along the mighty Chao Phraya River.

If you have extra time in Bangkok another area worth taking a walk around in is along Thonburi, on the west side of the Chao Phraya River. The most notable attraction there is Wat Arun (Temple of Dawn). While taking the river express ferry boat you will see that Thonburi as a lot of interesting Thai temples.
