Bangkok - The City of Angels in the Land of Smiles

Today, the city of Bangkok has truly entered the international forefront of tourism in Asia. Being consistently named as one of the best travel destinations in Asia helps a long way of course. But there’s more to Bangkok then just temples and even more temples.

Bangkok is a concrete jungle filled with a population that is increasingly becoming cosmopolitan. Their embrace of western culture and lifestyle knows no end as apparent by a flush of iPhone carrying teens and well to do Thai buppies (Bangkok yuppies) texting with their Blackberrys in their brand new shiny BMWs.

Bangkok is hot and humid, especially during the low season (April – late November). And when the rainy season begins (also April – late November) be prepared for the downpour and roll up your pant. The street traffic is horrendous and the fumes that mingle with the heavy humidity can be overbearing. Despite the uncomfortable weather and choking bus exhaust, travelers and explorers from all corners of the world still visit and enjoy all that Bangkok has to offer. That really says a lot.

Getting around Bangkok is easy, especially for those who’ve never set foot into Asia, thanks to two very efficient and tourist friendly train systems, the BTS Sky Train and MRT underground train. Signs are in English everywhere in the commercial districts. It is also widely spoken in the commercial and shopping districts so don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone and go explore. There’s even a large expatriate community to meet and make friends with if you ever feel the need to.

Bangkok offers all sorts of different activities for everyone. There are a number of interests for everyone to explore and experience for single travelers, couples and even families with young ones. From temple enthusiasts, to thrifty bargain shoppers and midnight bar hoppers, the activities are there, willing and waiting for you to joine. And if the city ever begins to be a bit too much you always have the option of making a side trip to many of the island and beach paradise destinations that put Thailand on the map.

Eating in Bangkok offers you a myriad of choices and if you're traveling in groups be prepared to start bickering over what to eat. To resolve such a conflict check out food courts where everyone is bound to find something to tuck into to their hearts content.

Though Bangkok is most well known for its sex industry catering to shady characters, sex tourists and recent divorcees, the red light districts are well confined within their own areas and are easily avoided. But  that doesn't necessarliy mean you should miss out on Bangkok's best bars and clubs.

So if you’re a family planning trips to Bangkok check out our family friendly hotels. Doing so will delay that long dreaded talk about the birds and the bees with your young ones.
